Rabbit hutch plans, plans include free PDF download (link at bottom of blog post), step-by-step illustrated instructions, measurements, cutting list, and shopping list.
1 – 5/8″ t1-11 exterior siding – 4’x8′
2 1/2″ deck screws
1 1/2″ deck screws
1 – 5/8 t1-11 exterior siding – 4’x8′ sheet, cut to size
wire mesh – cut to size
Build the floor for the rabbit hutch, cut two 2×4’s to 47 1/2″ and three 2×4’s to 21″. Drill pilot holes and assemble the floor as shown on illustration above using 2 1/2″ deck screws.
Cut the legs to the height you want the rabbit hutch or as shown above.
Cut four 2×4’s to 18″ and four 2×2’s to 18″, assemble the leg pieces to form a L, next drill pilot holes and secure them together with 2 1/2″ deck screws. Attach the legs to the corners of the floor by drilling pilot holes and using 2 1/2″ deck screws.
Cut wire mesh to size and install as shown on illustration above.
Build three wall frames as show on illustration above. Cut three 2×2’s to 24″ long, three 2×2’s to 32″ long, three 2×2’s to 21″ long, cut a 10 degree angle cut to one end, and three 2×2’s to 17″ long, cut a 10 degree angle cut to one end.
Assemble the wall frames as shown on illustration above, drill pilot holes and assemble with 2 1/2″ deck screws.
Two of the wall frames will have 5/8″ t1-11 exterior siding, cut siding to size and install using 1 1/2″ deck screws. Cut a door to one of the walls, see illustration above.
One of the wall frame will have wire mesh, cut to size and install using fence staples.
Install the walls, drill pilot holes and screw 2 1/2″ deck screws through the bottom wall frame and into the floor.
Cut a 2×4 to 29 1/8″ long, make a 10 degree bevel cut to one edge of the board. Cut a 2×2 to 13 1/4″ long, make a bevel cut to one edge of the board. Install as shown on illustration above, drill pilot holes and use 2 1/2″ deck screws.
Cut two 2×2’s to 13 1/4″ long, make a 10 degree bevel cut to the edge of one of the 2×2 boards. Cut a 2×4 to 29 1/8″ long, make a bevel cut to one edge of the board. Drill pilot holes and install with 2 1/2″ deck screws.
Cut wire mesh to size and install to the back as shown on illustration above. Cut the back siding to size, notch around the 2×2’s, install using 1 1/2″ deck screws.
Cut two 2×2’s to 29 1/8″ long, and two 2×2’s to 17 1/2″ long. Assemble the door frame as shown on illustration above, drill pilot holes and assemble with 2 1/2″ deck screws. Cut wire mesh to size and attach to the door frame.
Cut two 2×2’s to 19″ long. and two 2×2’s to 13 1/4″ long. Assemble the door frame as shown on illustration above, drill pilot holes and use 2 1/2″ deck screws to assemble. Cut siding to size and attach to the door frame, screw 1 1/2″ deck screws through the siding and into the door frame.
Install the door hinges and attach the doors to the rabbit hutch. Install the door latch.
Cut a piece of siding to 32″ x 47 1/2″ for the roof. Attach the roof with 1 1/2″ deck screws, screw through the siding and into the wall frame.

Maybe too big for 2 rabbits? How did you round the top of the enterance for the rabbits to enter their sleeping quarters.

I put the legs on the outside this time because they collect poop on the inside. I found that I now need to reenforce the legs with a brace to make them more stable. I also put all wire on the inside so they can’t chew up the wood. I like it much better.

About 11 feet of 1/2″ x 19 ga. 2′ hardware cloth if my math is correct. Wouldn’t you need to protect the T1-11 Siding from the outside elements? What would you use? Mark Mertens Do you have a plan for a rabbit hutch that has a slide drawer to clean waste?Instead of a sliding door, mount two Parallel treated 1 x 4s at a 12-14 degree angle between the legs (running the length of the hutch). Staple some fiberglass screen door mesh (3 ft wide) to the two angled boards, leaving about 5 inches of slack in the mesh so you can bend it into a “V” shape. Place a bucket of your choice at the bottom of the V. This makes a poop pellet catch that lets urine right through to the ground and the poop rolls down into the bucket for easy disposal/cleaning. Way easier than a poop tray that will swell and stick with humidity and urine.
Hunter, any chance you could provide a picture or a simple drawing? I’m having a hard time visualizing what you’re describing.
Not sure if this will help, but it is like a chute/slide for the poop to roll down and the urine to slide down. put a bucket at the und to catch it all, you’re good.
Is this a tried and tested method that works?The screen bottom collector is genius. I am adding that to the build! I bought my rabbit to be a fertilizer factory with all the shortages predicted. And the husband fell in love with her! Had to chase a hawk away from her open top ground pen today, so a safer space will make me feel SO much better!

Actually it’s quite big plenty of room for two rabbits,
We built ours of a broken down old picnic table wood
And scraps we had. Our hardware store only had 30” x 10foot rolls of mesh, so we were able to use that by not putting mesh on the short end of the hutch. But we have enough left over so
We could cut a hole in the siding and make a window in that end later if needed.

Wish it had been mentioned or I had the foresight to put the metal screen/mesh inside so the rabbit doesn’t chew the wood! And the door frames, should be beveled or slightly smaller in size, so that they can open and close easily. Other than that, I have built two and they are great.
Charlene L KamschI have made 3 of these 36″x48″, and the last was a double hutch 48″x36″(two 24″x36″). I put the legs on the outside of the frame cause the poop will lay on top of the legs and you can’t clean it off. I don’t understand how you attach the 3 frames to the beveled wood in between them, you can screw one but once it’s there you can’t screw the other side?? got pics if anyone wants to see them.
